Tommy Lewis

Coach Tommy Lewis brings more than 20 years of coaching experience at the highest levels of youth lacrosse, combining a distinguished playing career with a commitment to developing confident, fundamentally sound athletes.
Collegiate Playing Career
A native of Canandaigua, New York, Tommy Lewis was a standout three-sport athlete at Canandaigua Academy before pursuing collegiate lacrosse at Virginia Wesleyan University (formerly Virginia Wesleyan College).
During his four-year career with the Marlins, Coach Lewis established himself as one of the most accomplished players in program history. A two-time team captain, he finished his career as Virginia Wesleyan’s:
- All-time leader in points
- All-time leader in assists
- All-time leader in ground balls
- Fifth all-time in goals scored
His individual accomplishments also include:
- Three-time All-Conference selection
- Conference leader in assists (1997)
- Conference leader in both goals and assists (1998)
- USILA All-American
- North vs. South Senior All-Star Game participant
Academic and Athletic Excellence
Coach Lewis was recognized not only for his outstanding play on the field but also for his dedication as a student-athlete. His honors include:
- Norfolk Sports Club Outstanding Athlete Award
- Donald M. Forsyth Student Athlete of the Year Award from the Marlin Athletic Club
These awards reflect his commitment to excellence in athletics, academics, and leadership.
Hall of Fame Recognition
In 2011, Tommy Lewis became the first lacrosse player inducted into the Virginia Wesleyan University Athletic Hall of Fame, recognizing one of the most accomplished careers in the history of the program.
Coaching Philosophy
Coach Lewis has spent more than two decades helping youth players develop the skills, confidence, and work ethic needed to succeed at every level of the game. His coaching emphasizes fundamentals, high lacrosse IQ, accountability, and teamwork while creating an environment where athletes can compete, grow, and enjoy the sport.
His experience as an elite collegiate player and longtime youth coach allows him to connect with athletes of all ages and guide them through every stage of their lacrosse development.
