Ryan Tucker brings a unique blend of athletic achievement and educational dedication to Norfolk Academy. As a former lacrosse captain and All-American at the University of Virginia, he transitioned seamlessly into professional play before dedicating himself to teaching history and mentoring young athletes.
Today, he is deeply committed to enriching the lives of middle school students as a history teacher, coach for both lacrosse and soccer, and a cultural leader on campus. His journey underscores the powerful impact when academic excellence and athletic leadership come together.

A Scholar-Athlete at the University of Virginia
Ryan Tucker graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in History. While at UVA, he distinguished himself both academically and athletically — earning spots on the Athletics Honor Roll (2012–2014) and twice being named to the All-ACC Academic Team. As a midfielder, he became one of the Cavaliers’ five team captains and earned recognition on the USILA Third-Team All-America roster. His competitive drive and academic dedication serve as a model for aspiring student-athletes.
Professional Lacrosse Career

In 2012, Tucker represented the U.S. on the Under-19 National Team, contributing to the squad’s World Championship victory in Turku, Finland. In 2015, he was selected fourth overall by the Boston Cannons in the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Draft, reflecting his elite status among collegiate players.
A Respected Teammate and MLL Winner
During five MLL seasons, including time with the Chesapeake Bayhawks, Tucker earned the Corum Players’ Choice Award in 2019 — voted by peers as the league’s “best teammate”. His championship performance culminated in the Bayhawks winning the MLL title in 2019, with Tucker contributing on the field and in the locker room. He officially retired from professional lacrosse in early 2020 after a highly regarded career.
